Montana Bandmasters Seeley Lake Rendezvous!
at Historic Camp Paxson
June 18-21, 2012
The 2012 Seeley Lake Rendezvous promises to be another outstanding professional development opportunity for instrumental music teachers. As always, the sessions are planned to address the needs expressed by the MBA membership. Two hours of graduate credit will be available through Montana State University. OPI renewal units (18) are available for those not interested in the graduate credit.
Our main presenter will be Dr. Robert Bayless recently retired from the University of Arizona. Bob followed in the footsteps of his father and became an outstanding band director, with experience at all levels. In addition to sharing his knowledge of conducting with us, Bob will also do sessions on some of his research. He will do a session on Music & the Brain and he will also do a session on Band Room Acoustics & Hearing Loss.
Joining Bob at Rendezvous will be his wife Barbara. She is an outstanding performer/teacher of bassoon and will do a session on Double Reed Resources.
Sessions also on the schedule include: Smart Music with Alicia Lipscomb & Hank Hanford, Percussion Ensemble/Drum Line with Dave Barr, Sound & Lighting with Jay Straw of “Hi Tech Audio, Lighting and Sound” who also teaches in the UM Theater Department and The Twelve Days of Tuning with Allen Slater.
We will be having three sessions of band literature reading instead of the two we have had in the past as this was requested by several participants at Rendezvous 2011. Also, there will be a session on Monday afternoon that could be of great significance to everyone. Attorney at Law, Elizabeth Kaleva will present a session on School Law to update us on current legal concerns. She is a leading expert on School Law in Montana.
Due to an increase in the camp use fee and the cost of food as well as other factors, we will be setting the fee for Rendezvous 2012 at $250 with registration due by May 15, 2012. After that date, the fee for registration will be $275. The cost of graduate tuition will be determined by MSU.
